Bonus: A Conversation with Terry & Noah about Evernote

If you haven’t signed up for Evernote you can do that here https://www.evernote.com/Registration.action. Noah and I wanted to share with you how we each personally using Evernote in our every day processes. We really pulled back the curtain so you guys can see what helps us create, write, dream, and most importantly  make our ideas a reality.

I use Evernote for 3 primary functions:

The Net: how I catch my ideas and be sure they don’t get away.
The Incubator: a place for my ideas to grow up from baby ideas.
The Factory: where ideas get assembled and shipped out the door.

One of the the things that makes Evernote amazing to me is that I can wake up, see something that triggers and idea (like a movie trailer) and I am capture that idea on my iPhone and rollover and go to sleep. Rather than one of two things happening. One: The idea is lost, because I forgot it or wrote in on something that gets lost  Two: The idea keeps me up all night. This is not the time to write a novel. Leave enough breadcrumbs to find your way back to the idea if your idea was lost in the forest.

I wake up in the morning and that idea is staring at me in the face on my iPad.

Then when I get to my office, or the coffee shop that I using as my office I open up my laptop and its there. Which is crazy idea. For the idea to be capture and in a form where it can be messed with and and acted upon.

I think about Evernote like the awesome Transformers trapper keeper I had in 5th grade. It was full of folder that keep ever class organized. Evernote calls those folders “Notebooks” and each notebook can have notebooks within each notebooks. Here a glimpse of a few of my notebooks.

Here is one way I am using notebooks. As you know I am writing a book entitled, Making Elephants Fly. Evernote allows me to take all of my ideas and put them in sub-notebooks. For me its chapters. Here is a glimpse inside chapter Zero.

Here is a glimpse at how Noah is using his Evernote to block out his day. The note on the right is a blog post idea that he drug into the notebook for today to deal with. He literally put ideas on the calendar!
