Module #11: Creating Ideas that Spread – Blueprint

Push marketing vs. Give marketing

Marketing has changed. Those that want to stand out in a crowd of a noisy world of information will require more than a good-looking picture and money behind a campaign.

In order to go viral and gain attention, you need the one thing that trumps it all: STORYTELLING AND GIVING OF YOUR HEART. Give the world something worth following and sharing.

Bad Example: Here is a new art piece “Exhale.” It’s $50.00, and it’s on my store. (Notice no link and no way to get it.)

Good example: I just finished my newest piece “Exhale.” We have those moments and seasons in life when we have to come up for air to break free of the chaos and challenges life can bring. I painted this piece during a tough season of learning about my past hurts and wounds. A mermaid came to mind as I began to heal. Suggestions:

• Be sure you don’t hide behind your brand. Your Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter are all about storytelling. People are buying and following you, not your product. Make sure to show pictures of yourself making the product and the behind the scenes of what it takes.

• Be vulnerable. Be transparent. Show your audience you “get” them.

• Social media isn’t a one-way street. It’s a dialog. A conversation. Having social media outlets without talking on them is like hosting a party at your house and not showing up.

• Pick a weekly theme and current events to discuss: Trending topics and pop culture.

• Follow brands that are rich in content and see why they have so many followers. One of my favorites to follow is www.filson.com. Also check out their storytelling on Instagram @Filson1897.

• Take a look at your bio on your website, and your bio on all your social media platforms. Can the public learn who you are and why you do it in just your bio?

• Key suggestion: When you make a post ask yourself, “Would I share this?”

• Reminder: Titles of your blogs should be like the front cover of a magazine. They should be so compelling that people will want to read your post. Search on Google for magazine covers and read the titles to see what stands out.
